Though I’ve been using NetNewsWire for over a year—now free, by the way—I started the new year off by trashing all of my RSS feeds and starting from scratch. Unfortunately, this whole starting-over process had happened multiple times, so drastic changes were in order.
Although there was a select group of feeds I found valuable and insightful, most of my folders were overflowing with hundreds of unread items. Discussions at 43folders and kottke.org presented a solution: discard the old genre-based filing system in favor of a new approach to feed organization.

After such a long time with the old blog design, I’ve simplified and cleaned up the blog, old home page, and portfolio designs. Up top you’ll see my 7 most recent photos, and I’ve removed all of the distracting sidebar content and widgets in favor of a one-column design. I’m planning to use this blog for longer form writings and discussions.
I’ve also been trying out tumblr’s service here. I’ve been posting videos, quotes, and quick messages to the tumble blog, and it automatically pulls in my del.icio.us links and flickr images.

NPR relaunched its NPR Music site several weeks ago. Clunky real-media files have been replaced by the new NPR-player. The player doesn’t slow browsing, and additional tracks from across the NPR site can be added to the playlist without disrupting the currently playing track. Tracks include NPR series, individual tracks, live streams, and several full concerts.
Most recent (past two years?) articles and recordings have been updated to work with the relaunch. Hopefully, the archives will be added to the new system soon. The Jens Lekman-hosted All Songs Considered is worth a listen.

Obviously, I haven’t found much time for the site. As for the essentials, I have found some heavenly bagels and mobile coffee. $1 for a mug? Yes! On to the roundup:

del.icio.us (now Delicious) is undergoing big changes with a total code rewrite and an updated interface. TechCrunch reports on the changes to the site and many new features being integrated into the social bookmarking service.
